CDOs instructed to arrest entrepreneurs not operating vehicles Kathmandu, May 4 The Home Ministry has instructed Chief District Officers (CDO) in all 77 districts to arrest and take action against the transport entrepreneurs who have called a strike on Friday protesting the government’s decision to end transport cartels. Stating that the general public has been hit by the strike, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has instructed the 77 CDOs to arrest the transport entrepreneurs who are not operating their vehicles and take action as per the Essential Services Operation Act 1957. NA constructs 1,048 km roads so far Kathmandu, May 4: The Nepal Army has so far completed works on opening the track of 26 road projects of the country. According to the Development and Construction Directorate of the Nepal Army, a total of 1,048 kilometres of road has been constructed in course of completing these projects. The Nepal Army had got responsibility to construct the roads in rural and hilly districts. The NA had constructed Surkhet-Jumla, Nagma-Gamgadhi, Beshishahar-Chame, Musikot-Burtibang, Baglung-Beni-Jomsom, Jomsom-Korala, Chhinchu-Jajarkot, Salyan-Musikot, Abuba-Bhachchek, Gorkha-Aarughat roads. Similarly, the NA had opened the track of Kathmandu-Tarai fast track, Gorkha-Manakamana road, Hile-Leguwa road, Katari-Okhaldhunga road, Trishuli-Somdang road, Satdobato-Nibelbaluwa road, Devsthal Kainakada-Chaurjahari road, Champapur-Barahachhetra alternative track, among others. T ransport entrepreneurs go on strike, thousands of passengers affected Kathmandu, May 4 A strike imposed by transport entrepreneurs supporting the ‘syndicate’ system has affected the daily life of people across the country. While the government has vowed to cancel the registration of transporters who go on strike, the transporters have demanded that the government not force them to operate their business as companies. In Kathmandu, public transport vehicles have been parked in the Bus Park area and ticket counters have been closed. However, private vehicles and few cabs are operating. ‘Pro-syndicate’ transporters impose strike on long routes Kathmandu, May 3 Transport entrepreneurs protesting the government decision to stop registration and renewal of their committees as NGOs have stopped providing long-route bus services from Thursday afternoon apparently in a bid to make the government let them continue their monopoly as syndicates. The transportation was halted after an announcement by the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Association. As per the protest programme, the Federation has warned of stopping operation of public vehicles across the country from Friday. According to an official of the Federation, buses that leave for farther destinations today will not reach their respective destinations till midnight itself, affecting the protest programme for tomorrow. “Hence, we have decided to halt the bus services from Thursday afternoon.
